Colca Canyon

We left at 6.30am in the hope of spotting condors at Colca Canyon (the world´s deepest), and were extremely lucky to see three close up. Apparently, they don´t frequent the canyon at this time of the year. They soared majestically on the thermal currents, despite looking like vultures.

We´ve just returned to Arequipa, and will fly to Cuzco at 6.30am tomorrow morning. There, we hope to try one of the local specialties, guinea pig (known as cuy). Stefana emailed to say that when her sister tried this in Peru, they served it with head and feet still attached, and a hat-shaped tomato on its head!

The next four days will be spent hiking the Inca Trail, so I will probably not post another update till that´s done ... if we survive. Wish us luck!
