Uyuni

Due to intense rain before we arrived in Uyuni, we were unable to stick to our original itinerary. The local tour company we were using for this excursion suggested an alternative itinerary which would allow us to explore more of the area over two extra days for an extra US$20pp, but cautioned that accommodation over the next two nights would be very basic. We all signed our agreement, but some members of our group must have overlooked the part which stressed ¨basic¨, so it was whinge, whinge, bloody whinge from them while we were there. True, the toilets weren´t pristine, but what do you expect when you sign up for ¨Adventure Travel¨in a third world country? Hike your pants up, hold your breath, and do what you gotta do quick as you can, I say.

In my opinion, what we saw more than made up for the lack of mod cons: a train graveyard, pink and blue lakes, thousands of flamingoes, a rather tame fox, and expansive desert including a moonscape of geysers. Take the road less travelled!
