Pisco

We caught a bus to Pisco on New Years Day, and had a celebratory dinner with another Tucan tour running parallel to ours. Pisco´s a small town, famous only for being the home of Peru´s national drink - Pisco Sour - and we went to what must´ve been the only bar to welcome the new year. The TV in the bar was playing salsa DVDs so we had no idea what the time really was, especially since no one was sure their watch was accurate, so there was no count down. We all sat around wondering if we were any closer to midnight, then one of the locals simply stood up and said "Feliz Ano Nuevo!" and we all went around hugging and kissing friends and strangers. Local boys seemed to get a kick out of lighting bonfires in the streets. Warren and I spent some time on our hotel´s rooftop balcony watching them jump over their bonfires and throw fire crackers into them.
According to local lore, yellow is the colour to wear on New Year´s as it brings luck. However, even the locals realise it´s not the most flattering, as we only saw yellow underwear being sold. Was tempted to buy some just for a funny pic, but they were all grannie unddies.
